City Building gives hospice charity shop a makeover

City Building encourages its young apprentices to get involved with local community activities and contribute to community initiatives via its Apprentice Community Projects scheme. The scheme focuses on working with local communities to add value to facilities, as well as with local groups and events to enable others to deliver community benefits within their area.

Two young apprentices from leading Glasgow-based construction company, City Building, have put their skills to good use to give a fresh new look to a charity shop in Govan.

Gas Safety Awards 2015

The Gas Team within City Building, celebrated receiving two major awards last night.

The Association of Gas Safety Managers (AGSM) and CORGI presented CITY BUILDING with TWO major awards. Not only did they scoop the Scottish Social Housing Contractor of the Year Award but along with other organisations who won the other seven English Regional Awards, the went on to win the National Social Housing Contractor of the Year.

These awards celebrate the achievements of gas managers and directors in social housing, contractors working with them and suppliers to the industry.

Behind the scenes at RSBi

On Tuesday of last week, our supported factory, Royal Strathclyde Blindcraft Industries (RSBi) based in Springburn, Glasgow welcomed visitors to a “Behind the Scenes” event organised by the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI).

The SCDI is an independent and inclusive economic network of business organisations which seeks to influence and inspire Government and key stakeholders with their ambitious vision to create sustainable economic growth for Scotland.

City Building has secured a prestigious European award for its commitment to deliver excellence

City Building has secured a prestigious European award for its commitment to deliver excellence throughout its organisation.

Quality Scotland, national partner of the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) an organisation for driving performance improvement, presented its Committed to Excellence award to City Building. The award is presented once a year in recognition of companies that strive to reach sustainable excellence in the private, public and non-profit sectors.

During the assessment process to be considered for the award employees from all across the company took part, from apprentices to the executive director. Participants carried out a number of exercises such as understanding how effective the company’s deployment strategy is, looking at current strengths and opportunities and establishing a baseline position to measure progress over time. Following a number of assessments and interviews with managers and focus groups City Building secured the award for the first time.

Minister praises City Building’s leadership on encouraging women in construction

Leading Scottish construction firm, City Building, welcomed Annabelle Ewing MSP, Minister for Youth and Women’s Employment, to its RSBI facility this week as the firm highlighted its continuing commitment to encourage women to take up careers in the construction industry.

During her visit Ms Ewing met with a number of female apprentices and tradespeople who shared their experiences of working for the company.

City Building has played a leading role in supporting women to take up careers in the construction industry, with the most recent figures from Skills Development Scotland (SDS) showing that the company is responsible for employing a quarter of all female construction apprentices in Scotland.

Garrowhill Primary School Opens

It’s a family affair as Glasgow’s newest school opens – at a cost of £11.5 million.

Crumbling Garrowhill Primary School has been replaced with a state-of-the-art new building. And it was a real community effort as local parents were involved in the build, including dad Scott Stewart. Mr Stewart is Senior Electrical Contracts Manager for City Building, which ran the project, and oversaw the electrical work in the school. His two daughters, Aimee and Nicole, are in primary two and primary five.

City Building gives big to good causes

Leading Scottish construction company, City Building, has presented two charities with £10,000 each following successful fundraising activities.

The cheques were awarded to Kidney Research UK and Beatson Cancer Charity at Glasgow City Chambers following a charity golf day jointly organised by the company, and the Lord Provost’s and International Office, at Sandyhills Golf Course at the end of last year.

City Building with support from its suppliers and staff from the Lord Provost’s and International Office raised the money organising a range of activities including auctions, longest drive competitions and beat the pro challenges.

City Building selected Beatson Cancer Charity and Kidney Research UK as their corporate charities in early 2014 as part of its community engagement programme allowing the firm to give something back to the city.

City Building delivers 81 new apprenticeships in 2014

Leading Scottish construction company City Building (Glasgow) LLP continues to lead the way in delivering apprenticeships.

City Building, Glasgow City Council’s arm’s length construction firm, has recruited 81 apprentices this year and offered contract extensions to 127 time out apprentices.

The apprenticeships have been created in construction, painting and decorating, electrical, plumbing and administration.

As one of the country’s leading providers of apprenticeship and training opportunities, addressing youth unemployment is a key commitment of City Building.

City Building shortlisted for Excellence in Skills and Learning

This award looks for organisations who demonstrate commitment to the learning and development of the workforce and where appropriate, the supply chain. Shortlisted organisations will have shown they prioritise the pursuit of business excellence through the knowledge and skills of their staff and demonstrate a strategic commitment to learning throughout the organisation, recognising the importance of the continual development of staff skills.

Stage Set for Glasgow War Tribute

Lord Provost Sadie Docherty visited apprentices involved in the city’s preparations for the commemoration of the First World War.

On August 4th, Glasgow will host the first and largest of three national events to mark the 100th anniversary of the UK’s entry into the conflict.
