A Glasgow MSP has heaped praise on City Building’s recent charity work refurbishing a medical centre in Malawi.
The leading Scottish construction company were singled out by Cathcart SNP MSP, James Dornan, following a recent trip by a team of six tradespeople and two Commonwealth apprentices from City Building (Glasgow) LLP, working with Glasgow City Council and Access LLP, who travelled to Malawi last month to carry out the critical improvements to the centre.
Mr Dornan laid down a motion in the Scottish Parliament recognising the group’s efforts to improve the facilities at the medical centre by building a new kitchen and toilet facilities as well as a new dental suite, pharmacy and laboratory. In addition all the rooms were decorated and given new floor finishes. The team also built short stay accommodation, a breakout area for parents and children and a ramp to ensure the facility is accessible.The motion praised the team who it states arose to the challenge for what was “”a challenging build and a difficult timeframe””.
Mr Dornan said: “”I was delighted to lay down a motion in Parliament recognising the great work of City Building and Access on their recent trip and work in Malawi. Having visited Uganda and South Sudan last year, I know just how important refurbishment projects can be to the people of that part of Africa.
“”I hope the employees of City Building and Access get further opportunities to use their experience and skills in Malawi as their contribution can really make a difference.””
Councillor Paul Carey, Chair at City Building, said: “”It’s a great boost to us to see the hard work our team undertook during their visit to Lilongwe recognised by James Dornan in the Scottish Parliament.

John Robertson, Labour MP for Glasgow North West also laid down a motion in the House of Commons to show his support for our team’s efforts.
