You will be working for a busy Team based in our Springburn Office surveying domestic Properties across the Glasgow and Central Belt areas. Reporting to the Assistant Technical Manager you should possess a good knowledge of typical Housing stock in the Glasgow area and have experience dealing with Local Authority and Housing Association Clients and Tenants alike.

Applicants must possess the BOHS P402 “Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings” or RSPH Level 3 qualification in Asbestos Surveying AND have a minimum of 3 years experience working as a fully trained and signed-off Surveyor in a UKAS-accredited organisation.

Applicants will be expected to possess the BOHS P405 “Managing Asbestos in Buildings” or RSPH L3 “Asbestos Management for Dutyholders” qualification. S301 or CoC (Asbestos) qualifications would be advantageous. Additional H&S qualifications (IOSH/NEBOSH), Surveying or Construction qualifications (NC/HNC etc.) or demonstrable experience in auditing or quality roles within a UKAS-accredited organisation are desirable.

You must have a full driving licence (a company van will be provided) and be clean shaven at all times when at work. You should be fully conversant with HSG264 – Asbestos: The Survey Guide and have an excellent working knowledge of the relevant H&S legislation including the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, particularly how they apply to Asbestos Surveying.

Your main role will be carrying out management and refurbishment surveys for our various Clients. You will be used to working on your own, using your initiative, adapting to changing situations and taking charge where necessary in order to provide a great service to our Clients. You should ideally have experience using AlphaTracker software to capture sample data. You will also carry out directed bulk sampling for Clients.

When not carrying out surveys you will assist the Management and Office Staff to prepare reports, draw site plans on MS Visio and QC completed reports including those from sub-contractors. There are many other tasks to carry out within the Office and you will be expected to participate fully in these as a key part of our small Team and to provide cover for other Staff as appropriate.

If you have experience in auditing, reinspections, H&S, risk assessment, quality roles or UKAS preparation then these skills would be useful to us. We are not currently accredited by UKAS, however we follow the same Guidance documents and Regulations as accredited Surveying Bodies and aim to gain accreditation in the short to medium term.

You must be keen and enthusiastic, with a flexible approach to work. Overtime is offered occasionally, and you may sometimes be asked to start early or work late to suit the business. You will be the public face of the Section so applicants must be good communicators and be calm and confident when dealing with the Public. You should fit into our Company ethos – be willing to help others, to go the extra mile for our Clients and get on with those around you.

Applicants are expected to engage and participate fully in all training provided. Excellent training opportunities will be provided during your employment both by our in-house Training Section and our numerous training providers across Glasgow including the possibility for further education for the right candidates. You will be encouraged to seek out training, research new technology and develop fresh techniques which may benefit the Section. Innovation is welcomed and diversity is encouraged.

Our aim is to provide our Clients with exactly the kind of survey and survey information they require. We believe the quality of the completed survey report is paramount – our surveys are in-depth and detailed to avoid mistakes and reduce the need for revisits. Normally you will attend surveys with a City Building representative. You should take satisfaction from seeing a job through from start to finish and knowing you have helped make a difference to someone by helping their repair or refurbishment take place safely and without delay.

Working hours are 37 per week to be worked flexibly to suit the needs of the business. We offer excellent terms and conditions of employment including enhanced leave provisions, sick pay and local government pension scheme.

If you feel you have the necessary skills and experience to provide the above service and can add value to the business, then please forward your CV and application supporting statement to the HR Section at or mail it to HR Section, 350 Darnick Street, Glasgow G21 4BA, no later than Friday 15 October 2021.
