Alex Neil MSP, Minister for Housing and Communities, visits Training Centre
Alex Neil, Minister for Housing and Communities, visited Queenslie Training Centre on Monday 5th October for a tour of the facilities, to see for himself what has made it the largest – and most successful – apprenticeship training centre in Scotland.
He spoke to apprentices about their choice of career, their aspirations and hopes for the future and their thoughts on the industry and current job opportunities.
Speaking at his visit to the training centre, Minister Alex Neil said: “Apprenticeships provide young people with vital life skills and I am delighted by the great work and training being provided by City Building.”
Willie Docherty, Managing Director said: “This is a superb opportunity for the Minister to see at first hand, the life long skills our apprentices have the chance to learn here.
We currently have over 500 apprentices in the Glasgow area and our facilities, resources and staff that support the delivery of the training to them are unrivalled. Our success rate in passing out fully qualified, employable and site experienced graduates is unsurpassed and I am extremely proud of what they - and we - have achieved.”
Repairs and Maintenance Contract
Following a full tender process, City Building has been awarded the Repairs and Maintenance contract for all areas of Glasgow.
Repairs are reported via the GHA Customer Service Centre on 0800 479 7979.
We are obviously delighted with this commercial decision by the GHA which builds on our current relationship. We are pleased to provide a first class repairs and maintenance service to GHA customers and we welcome the continuation of that work. Our commitment to excellence in the standard of our work and equally important, it is to reinvest in the communities that we serve by generating employment and providing opportunities for those in our communities.
Let’s go to work!

A new regeneration project worth £27m, which is a partnership between City Building, Alexander Morton Homes and North Glasgow Housing Association was recently unveiled.
A total of 196 homes will be built on the site and will include a mix of two and three bedroom detached, terraced, semi-detached and wheelchair accessible housing.
City Building will construct the house structures using timber kits manufactured at RSBi and a total of 42 manual workers and 20 apprentices will work on the project.
Council Leader, Steven Purcell joined the project launch and said “This project will make a huge difference to the lives of people in the area, not just through improvements to the physical infrastructure, but also through the social legacy that the associated jobs and apprenticeship opportunities will bring. It’s a perfect example of how partnerships between the public and private sector can lead to real benefits for ordinary people”.
