Commonwealth House was the refurbishment of the former Tontine Building in the Merchant City area of Glasgow to house the Glasgow 2014 Organising Committee as the new headquarters for the Commonwealth Games.
The building, in excess of 108,000 sq ft, was fully redeveloped to ensure it was fit for purpose for over 1,000 members of staff.
The interior of Commonwealth House was designed in line with the Organising Committee’s athlete centred and sport focused vision with all 17 Commonwealth sports portrayed throughout the building, including the pictograms and sport terminology in designing and naming all the meeting rooms.
The listed building sits on the north-west corner of Glasgow Cross, and is one of the most important buildings, in terms of architectural quality and scale in location in the Merchant City.
