Praise for City Building’s Work on Restoration Project

A restoration project worth more than £22,000 has been completed to transform the iconic Merchants House in Glasgow back to its former glory in order to welcome more visitors through its doors.

Leading Scottish construction company, City Building, has been highly praised for its work to transform an historic part of the Grade A listed Merchants House in the heart of the city. A team of six skilled workers, including three apprentices, led by Operations Manager, George Cramb, conducted careful restoration and redecoration of the Director’s Room, Ante Room and vestibule at the Merchants House building, which was completed in 1877.

City Building Apprentices Put Finishing Touches to SSE Hydro Ahead of 2015 World Gymnastics Championships

Young apprentices from Glasgow are helping put the finishing touches to the SSE Hydro ahead of the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships €“ one of the biggest sporting events ever to be staged in the UK.

With just days till the action gets underway, around 30 apprentices and tradespeople from City Building have been hard at work constructing the field of play perimeter wall, gymnasts’ entrance tunnel and judges’ table dividers in the SSE Hydro.


City Building has been shortlisted in the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) STAR (Success, Triumph, Achievement, Recognition) in the Lifelong Learning Centre category.

In being shortlisted judges looked for:

  • significant personal development for students
  • substantial future plans for employers
  • benefits of qualifications and training to the local community
  • creative models of recruitment and/or delivery

City Building welcomes Leading UK Safety Trainer

Leading Scottish construction company, City Building, welcomed the UK’s leading speaker on behavioural safety training to its Glasgow headquarters to share insights on how individual’s approach safety as part of the Proud 2B Safe programme.

Jason Anker is one of the UK’s foremost speakers on safety training and was recently made MBE in recognition of his services to health and safety in the construction industry.

He visited City Building staff today (Tuesday 15 September 2015) to deliver talks to managers, supervisors and apprentices working in the construction industry as part of the Proud 2B Safe programme which aims to take safety beyond compliance.
