Construction Apprenticeships
Commonwealth Apprenticeship Initiative (CAI)
Glasgow City Council has committed to the Commonwealth Apprenticeship Initiative for a second year. This will provide apprenticeship opportunities for suitably qualified 2010 school leavers in both the public and private sectors and will apply to young people who go to school in Glasgow or who live in the City.
City Building will be involved in this initiative for 2010 and will be delivering construction craft apprenticeships to suitably qualified young people on behalf of the Council.
Please note that young people are not guaranteed any particular apprenticeship and that, in order to qualify, the young person must: -
- Pass any relevant selection tests
- Pass any other entry requirements
- Be able to progress through an interview process
Young people who do not meet the qualifying criteria and who are not ready to take up an apprenticeship will be offered support to achieve other training and qualifications. This support will be delivered by the Council and its partners.
Due to the current economic climate, some sectors such as construction apprenticeships, are likely to be restricted. The majority of apprenticeships are likely to be areas such as business administration, childcare, customer services, vehicle maintenance and repair, retail, hospitality, hairdressing, IT and engineering.
The closing date for CAI applications is 31 March 2010.
There will be clear communication with young people in the progress of their CAI application form. Young people will know by the 25 June 2010 if their CAI application has progressed to the next stage in the selection process.
For more information and for an application form, please contact the CAI team directly on 0141 287 7282, email apprentices@glasgow.gov.uk or visit the website at www.glasgow.gov.uk/apprentices
Please do not contact City Building directly regarding construction apprenticeships, as all enquiries and applications are being coordinated by the Council’s CAI team.
