Multi Million Regeneration Project Sees City Building Move In On New House Building Sector

GLASGOW—August 3, 2009

City Building (Glasgow) LLP, one of Scotland’s largest construction firms, is making a major move into the new house building sector following the contract signing of a multi-million pound regeneration project in the north of Glasgow.

The company has been taken on as lead contractor for the £27million Broomfield Road development, which gets underway in August.

In partnership with North Glasgow Housing Association and developer Alexander Morton Homes, a total of 122 homes, including 50 for private sale, 52 for rent and 20 for low cost home ownership are being built in the first phase of the project. They will be a mix of two and three bedroom detached, semi-detached and terraced homes, including wheelchair accessible sites.

Over 60 skilled workmen and apprentices along with City Building’s project management team, will be responsible for the construction of the housing shells, which will be built using top quality timber kit frames designed and manufactured by Glasgow based Royal Strathclyde Blindcraft Industries, managed by City Building.

Around £13million of the overall investment will be spent in Glasgow through City Building’s supply chain, helping to boost the local economy and supporting local employment.

Willie Docherty, managing director of City Building, said; “This contract puts City Building firmly on the map as a major contender in the new house building sector.

“Our track record of providing great service – at a highly competitive price - as well as being able to offer clients a one stop shop for all their construction, installation and maintenance needs, has seen us continue to prosper despite these challenging times.

“Our timber kit frames guarantee life long quality, constructed by workmen who have undergone comprehensive training and whose skills are second to none. Our staff pride themselves in knowing that they are providing the very best service, which is reflected by our outstanding customer satisfaction levels.

Robert Tamburrini, Chief Executive of North Glasgow Housing Association, said; “Projects such as this are vital to the ongoing regeneration of Glasgow on a social, economic and physical level. They boost pride in an area through improvement to the landscape, provide much needed employment and raise confidence in viable job opportunities within the community.

“Our investment will bring about significant benefits for local tenants and offer potential buyers the chance to get on the property ladder through the provision of affordable, quality housing. The expertise offered by City Building is unparalleled and their involvement in this development reflects NGHA’s commitment to keeping employment and investment at a local level.

“I am delighted to see this project get the green light and look forward to seeing the completed development.”

Councillor Steven Purcell, Leader of Glasgow City Council, welcomed the signing of the contract at City Building’s head office in Springburn on Friday. The development is scheduled to take 16 months to complete.
